Summer snapshots : currying favour

The blooms of the Curry Leaf plant (Murraya koenigii) has a besotted bee busy tring to ... well, curry favour.
Incidentally, the blooms actually smell a little pungent. Just the way Indians love their curry!

  1. I've seen - and used - curry leaves but never really thought about its flowers.
Nice capture of the bee at work. Do you suppose the honey could have the zing of curry?

  2. lovely shot. curry patta is a common plant and favorite among the house wives as well. Its cousin murraya exotica is also very famous here.

  3. I'm sure it will definitely affect the flavour of the honey, Stephanie. Imagine ... curried honey! The mind boggles :D

Thanks, Muhammad. Not just housewives, even herbalists love the curry leaf plant. Its suposed to be great for diabetics. And the oil seasoned with a few leaves from the curry leaf plant is supposed to be great for healthy hair. Great reasons to love the curry leaf plant!

Hi Hobo. Good to see you here.

  5. I have a curry leaf plant but it has not flowered yet. They say you have to remove the seeds before they scatter otherwise it can become weedy. I imagine it is the same there?

  6. Well, I'm assuming it most probably will, Lona, but I'm not going to try and find out ;)
    I'm done flirting with danger (http://the-urban-gardener.blogspot.com/2009/01/blue-oakleaf-on-pink-cassia.html )!

Africanaussie, I have some which havent flowered at all too. I think its possibly the difference in location. The ones shown here are in full sun and are almost 8-9 feet tall . The other one is in bright shade and have neither grown taller than 3 feet nor have they ever flowered. That doesn't stop them from sprouting all over the place, though. They have very adventurous roots!

  8. Thanks, Priya. Actually there was so much of insect activity around those bloms that I wish they would have slowed down enough for me to click them. As it is I only got a lot of blurred snaps.

  10. Thanks, KTSG :)
I have a couple of pots stashed next to my kitchen window in my apartment. No way does it grow as exuberantly as the curry leaf plants in my other garden where they're planted in the ground with no pot to restrict them.

  12. I guess old Copywriting habits die hard, IHM! :D
Thanks! I didn't really think of the light at the time of taking the snap though ... I was just too glad to get at least one of the curry leaf plant's visitors to sit still and pose for me.
