Mumbai : City of Gold

They call Mumbai the City of Gold. Looking at these photos, do you doubt it?

Even a fisherman can cast his nets in a molten sea that ripples with golden highlights.

Can a cloud dim the splendour of the fiery sun for long? He will just burn his way through them.

Palm leaves can be the perfect frame for a masterpiece in shades of gold and gray.

And a homeward-bound bird can find his way guided by a golden path glimmering from sea to shore.

These photos were all taken on the same day this week.

    Isn't it typical, Kanak? That our obsession with gold(the metal, I mean) should find a reflection in the sky ... and sea. And isn't it also typical that I just have to be contrary and prefer silver (antique, of course) ;)

    Beautiful photos. The silhouttes of the palm tree fronds, the boats and the bird are what make these special.

    Watching your photos one gets an impression that the sea and sky over Mumbai are more beautiful than anywhere else in the world. Yes its a City of Gold inhabited by people with Golden hearts.

    Tyra, can you spot that little flag he has placed to mark his nets? That is to give an indication to other boats, I guess. Its a very peaceful sight, watching them put out their nets. I wonder whether he realises that he is fishing in a golden sea?

    Hi Kim! I think I've thoroughly convinced my neighbours of my eccentricity by now. Frumpy, dumpy housewives in these parts dont go around toting cameras and clicking photos of the sky (of all things)!

    Eric, I'm sure you'll feel right at home here. I've had friends and family visiting Florida who couldn't believe that they were in the US. The weather, plants, etc. were so much like that of coastal India.
    Imagine travelling all the way around the earth to find a place exactly like home!

    Racquel, I'm just thanking my lucky stars that I've graduated to a digital camera. With these views I would've spent a fortune in buying umpteen rolls of film and on developping/ printing if I were still using my old film camera.

    You're so right about the sunset over water ... all my work slows down at that time of the day just so I can enjoy the spectacular show being put up by the sun and sea :)
