Welcoming the Monsoon

The Monsoon ... is... here! Finally!
It crept into Mumbai like a tardy school-boy, dragging its feet and tried to bluster its way through.
But it's oh so welcome, nonetheless !
If it were a person, I would've hugged it to pieces. But as it is, I'll simply hug myself in glee and drag my chair a little closer to the window and try to catch the raindrops on my face. Hopefully, without short-circuiting my computer!

  2. Beautiful shots, Sunita, worthy of making a quilt from. :)

I was thinking about you Thursday as the temperature was 90F and I burned the soles of my feet (seriously) while walking across our deck at noon. We are 3" short on rain for the year, and over an inch shy for this month. The rain in the area has been going south and north of us. Finally, on Thursday night we had 1 1/2" of rain...in a torrential downpour, but I'll take whatever I can get!

Glad to hear you'll now be cooler.

  3. Zindagi, I really feel for you. Now that I'm no longer among the rain-deprived I wish the same for everyone else too. At least in India. I'm sure some of our blogging friends in colder climates wont be too happy if I wish rains for them too.
And yes, I'll make sure I enjoy the monsoons enough for you too :)

  4. Lisa, you thought of me when you burnt your feet? That figures ;D
No, seriously... all my grumbling of a few days ago are long forgotten (I hope I'm not talking too soon here).
I know exactly what you mean about being ready to take whatever you can get, though!

  5. Hallo Sunita

  6. CONGRATS! I am so so jealous of you. We are roasting here, and the humidity is making things even worse, add to it the weatherman's prediction of a delayed and subnormal monsoon; it is going to be tough times ahead.

  7. You can wish for rain for me too, Sunita, I won't mind - just so long as it doesn't go on all summer. We're having a heatwave here in London.

  10. Dorte,it is a funny world, isnt it? I know I would miss the sunshine if I didnt see it for more than a month but right now I've had more than enough of it. And I love the monsoon. Especially because the earth is so fertile then. Everything grows, everything looks beautiful.
Vietnam? I've heard it is really beautiful. I would love to go there myself some day.

  11. I know, GT... I'm feeling so smug about it as if I personally did something to get the rains here :D
I dont envy you one little bit now. I just hope the monsoon speeds up a bit and gets to you soon. Hang on!

And you too, Victoria. A heatwave in London? What happened to the famed British weather? Isn't it supposed to be perpetually drizzling over there? I can't really wrap my mind around a heatwave in London of all places.

  12. Thank you so much, Bangchik and Kakdah.

Patricia, it's all just so deliciously rainy and misty and wonderful right now. From my window next to my computer table I can see the sea roaring outside. Its a beautiful fusion of the elements and I love it!

TLI, was that you holding up our monsoons then? ;)
In any case, if it made your garden lovely it must've been worth it.

  14. I can so relate to relishing a dramatic change in the weather. Our heat wave here finally broke last night and now it's cool and breezy and comfortable at last. People were really getting grouchy, including myself. I suppose it will be back but for the moment I'm enjoying a return of spring. Have fun playing in the rain! I presume this will make your world green up and bloom?

  15. Charlotte, you lucky lady... you're going to see India at its greenest.
But if you're going to be in Mumbai around the 24th, be careful. There have been some forecasts of extremely high tides (the highest in 100 years) coinciding with heavy rains.

S.C., don't you just love it when the weather changes like that!Yeah, I know what you mean about getting grouchy and snappish. I really can't stand the heat and when it starts raining, it's like I'm being reborn.
I can see the land waking up from its stupor. Little wildflowers spring up everywhere and everything is so green. And the scent of wet earth ... love it!

  19. I'm so glad it's raining for you! I see the rituals have worked! I was getting worried with all the bad news about seeding the clouds etc. Rain is good.

  20. Thanks Rajesh. I hope you get to enjoy the monsoons soon.

Lzyjo, you're right, there have been all kinds of rituals ... religious rituals and poojas praying for rain. It may seem like desperate measures but in India the non-arrival of the monsoon calls for it. In any case, it seems to have worked :D

  21. I am glad the rain is with you now. It seems here in Michigan, USA it has rained non stop since spring came in. We have a swamp in our backyard because just as it starts to dry up it rains again.

  22. Wonderful photos! I especially love the first ... looks like a detail of a beautiful painting.

  23. Jessica, has it stopped raining for you? I dont mind ... send it all this way :D
I think the weather system has gone all off-kilter, hasn't it?

Thanks, Carol. I love the misty effect that the rains give to plants and trees.
