I've seen a lot of people enthusiastically sowing seeds and within hours pigeons and sparrows have eaten up all the seeds and any sprouts. And even when the vegetables and fruits are forming, they can be attacked by crows. The nets are a good way to keep them away.
Sunita Mohan https://www.blogger.com/profile/16395671437601246093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7433906806220848808.post-81957206243606477392013-07-06T15:01:01.053+05:302013-07-06T15:01:01.053+05:30Hi I'm from Mumbai and have a terrace of aroun...Hi I'm from Mumbai and have a terrace of around 200 sq ft, where i'd like to grow some vegetables. In all the pictures I see on the net, terraces are covered with nets on all sides and some even have nets on the top. Can someone help me understand the purpose of those nets? I've seen the local banana farmers doing something similar using long bamboo canes cross-tied at the top to form a V to rest the plant on. Most of my banana plants are very tall. I think I should look at getting a shorter variety.
We did terrace the land a bit but it looks like all that has flowed off too. It would then build up slowly,
and sticking as with glue. Every week/day leaves sticks, anything would ve added with some aesthetics involved.

Eventually, nothing will pass the barrier.

Until then.antigonum cajanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08227233232030093487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7433906806220848808.post-120634816978216012010-07-28T16:08:02.868+05:302010-07-28T16:08:02.868+05:30Sunita, great to see your thriving vegetable garde...Sunita, great to see your thriving vegetable garden. We have to prop up the Banana too, as they get top heavy. I had to laugh about the toothpick. Peter has made from to planks sort of like a V upside down, which he can use all the time again to prop up the B. Perhaps to stop the erosion you should terrace your garden beds with planks or stones, so your good, rich soil won't be swept away by heavy rains.
The home grown vegetables are the best, not poisoned and rich in taste. I think it is fantastic that you have enlarged your veg.garden; it looks so beautiful with the Bananas and Lantana for the butterflies. Certainly the birds are enjoying themselves in your garden.Lavender and Vanilla Friends of the Gardenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05403418150146893599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7433906806220848808.post-2488253103785402422010-07-26T14:42:36.749+05:302010-07-26T14:42:36.749+05:30Thats a good preview.
