And its definitely nice to hear that you came here looking for advice on growing orchids.
Anthuriums should never be kept in direct sunlight! They like bright light but not direct sunlight. Plants are slow to show signs of improvement once the damage is done and anthuriums are slow-growing plants. The next leaves to emerge may show healthier growth. Also do check whether the water requirements are being met and do check for spider mites under the leaves. All of these can cause the leaves to turn yellow.
Best of luck!Sunita Mohan https://www.blogger.com/profile/16395671437601246093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7433906806220848808.post-85590632483507749082016-04-12T13:40:32.596+05:302016-04-12T13:40:32.596+05:30Hi Sunita, I came across your blog when i was sear...Hi Sunita, I came across your blog when i was searching for blogs on "how to grow orchids". I must say, you have done it so beautifully. I have a balcony garden and have a variety of plants, one of which is an orchid. I know its a Dend, but not sure which one. Its flowered for the 3rd time since I got it couple of years back and it looks beautiful. I do have a couple of Anthurium's that I had purchased for their sheer beauty. I was wondering if you could help me with my Anthuriums. When I bought them, they were fine, but now the leaves are turning yellow or drying up. I used to keep them out in the balcony so that they would get direct sunlight, but then realised may be this summer was too hot for them and have moved all my anthuriums indoors, where there is light, but not direct light. Its been almost 3 weeks now, but I do not see any signs of improvement. What can I do? I stay in Bangalore? Any tips will be helpful. If it is an Obake anthurium there isn't anything you can do about it except to get another one and make sure it is a red one. Maybe you could check the name of the variety with the nursery and Google-check to see if its a true red.
Incidentally, the Obake anthuriums are much in demand in many parts of the world. I bet you babied them right throughout those 4 weeks, didn't you?
Sharon, what medium does your father use for his anthuriums? I use coarse-grained river sand mixed with broken chunks of brick (baked earth is great at retaining moisture) and charcoal. Every once in a while I add crushed egg shell as a treat. It is supposed to improve the colour but I use it more because the sharp pieces deter snails and slugs.
I could go on and on talking anthuriums but I'm sure your father already knows all this. I'd love to see a post on his collection.
